The autodidactic life

I'm a huge fan of the internet. It's true I waste a lot of time on 'shtut' but mostly the internet is my mind's playground. I love learning and am constantly amazed at the seemingly endless resources available for the curious of mind, the self-taught, the autodidact.

I want to share this link with you as one example https://www.coursera.org/

Coursera is nothing short of incredible. With a growing selection of top-notch college level courses given by leading professors in their fields, it is a rich mine of knowledge. Check it out, sign up for a course, it's free.

I hope to share more of this kind of thing in the future.

  1. Wow. This is an unbelievable site. Do students who participate in these courses get some sort of credit? I quickly browsed over the courses and there is definitely what to choose from. I think that this kind of information source is especially important in Israel. Due to the fact that the college system is profession based, and not liberal arts (like in North America), people are much less exposed to subject matter which is outside of their field. Something like this website gives everybody a chance to broaden their horizons.

    Thanks.

  2. They can only give actual course credit for around five of the courses but I expect that this will change with time. I sincerely hope that this becomes a legitimate and recognized way of learning.

  4. many thanks for the link to coursera - finding short courses on topics of interest are a real buzz, though who has the time for all this?????? i am also still not convinced that spending hours on the computer is that worthwhile, particularly when trying to better our interpersonal skills.

  5. I am interested to hear about these sites for lectures. I also wrote about TED and Ignite which are other sources of excellent lectures.
